The Whispy-A-Go-Go
Four times in seven days tiny pencils went a sailing
All was fine until
Other poem gets mad at present poem
In it's own defense present poem points out that certain concepts in both present and other poem are just fickle
And, perhaps, never loved other poem.
Sad
Sad
Sad
Other poem leaves with new girl by its side
not sad
not sad
not sad

Maybe people could call me "Don." No, that won't work, "Don" is my brother's name. Don't worry, I'll get this worked out.

Kasey writes,
"Whoa! Chick, you saw 95 Brains in Modesto? That must have been at Dazzle’s Underground, right? You didn’t come just to see us, I’m sure, or we would have known you. Were you a friend of the late great Brent Cook (Problem Fish), or were you there with that band that opened, Sins of the Flesh?

I’m afraid your memory doesn’t serve you very well. We were terrible."

Yeah! Dazzles Underground was the place. It used to be called the "Fable Room." Saw a lot of cool bands there back in the day: The Vandles, Skipper's Bone, The Spies, Virgin Mary's Diary, DSFA. I didn't go there to see any band in particular. I just liked the scene (compared to the alternatives in Modesto at the time). I knew Brent (a little bit). It's really sad. You guys weren't so bad (again, compared to the choices in Modesto at that time). I remember you had a bunch of people on stage.

Kasey says he was in a band called "95 Brains." I think I saw that band in the basement of a dingy night club in Modesto, Ca. back in the mid-1980's. Good stuff (if memory serves).

I had a great time at the dump yesterday. Mostly it was fun watching the people. Don't get me wrong--I don't want to hang out there or anything. It was just more interesting than I thought it would be.

I don't think the "Chickee" thing is gonna work, but I'm going to keep with it for at least another day or two. Maybe I'll try the cool initials thing (DC). People could say, "Yo DC" or some such. I'll have to give it more thought.

I love the "chickee" icon that Kasey put on his blog roll. As soon as I figure out how to put graphics on my blog, I'm gonna appropriate it.

I gotta level with you all: my name isn't Chickee. My friends call me "Chick" (since my last name is Chickston). I'm just sort of trying this Chickee thing on right now (actually no one ever as far as I know has actually referred to me as "Chickee"). My real name is Del. So if you want to call me "Chickee" that would be great, but you can call me "Del" or "Chick" too.

October 13th is Nipsey Russell's birthday. I propose that the poetry/poetics blogosphere honor Nipsey (I was going to call him "the Nipman" but wisely decided against it (I didn't wisely decide against telling you that I was going to do it)) by declaring the week of October 12th through 18th "Nipsey Russell Week." More details on the fun events to come.

As you may know, I'm hauling some stuff to the dump today. Here are some of the things I'm taking:

a plastic cactus (the cat keeps stepping on it).
a 5 gallon water bottle containg rocks that I thought looked sufficiently like kidneys to be worth keeping (I'm not looking forward to carrying this to the truck).
a wicker chair ('nuff said).
a plaster of paris bust of Lyndon B. Johnson that I made in the fourth grade (not much resemblance I'm sad to say).
a sleeping bag with holes at both ends.
a radiator from a '68 GTO (I always thought that I'd find one sans radiator and would be in great shape).
14 empty Nature's Valley Granola Bar boxes.
A copy of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (It took it once before but it followed me home--help!!!).

Little Soldiers
Tiny pencils have eaten my sandwhich
It's my fault I left it behind the windmill
I thought that it might ripen there
Now I'm afraid of chickens.

This is my second post. I've already changed my template. This bloggin thing is really exciting. Stay tuned.

Welcome to my new blog. I'm very exicted to be part of the whole blogosphere. I'll be posting some good (super deluxe good!!!) poems later, so stay tuned. I'll also be whining about the state of the world some. Most importantly, I'll be reporting on the more mundane details of my life.
